§ 6-1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Billposter includes all persons who engage in the business or occupation of posting, by tacking, posting, painting or otherwise, or circulating from house to house or distributing upon the streets any advertising matter, bills, posters, samples, pictures or any other thing, matter or device whatsoever advertising the business of any firm or occupation, whether that of merchant, manufacturer, publisher, or persons engaged in any business or industrial pursuit or of any operas, theaters, shows, circuses or other exhibitions. Nothing in this definition shall be construed to apply to the painting of store, office or other signs by sign painters nor the posting of legal notices by public officers or attorneys in the manner and in the places prescribed by law. This shall not prohibit any resident of this city from distributing his own advertising matter or causing the distribution by any responsible parties.
